At the 2025 Summer School at the Institute of Philosophy, University of Hildesheim, on “The Art and Philosophical Significance of Storytelling,” I was inspired to begin writing short stories. This is my first attempt. I also see great potential in using stories as a tool for language learners—not only to improve their reading comprehension, but also to develop their writing skills by creating stories of their own. In this first piece, I’ve included questions at the end to give learners a chance to practice their comprehension. One week ago my seminar “Introduction to analysing linguistic action: text and discourse” was filled with exitement as we welcomed Professor Kwabena Sarfo Sarfo Kantankah from the University of Cape Coast in Ghana.

He introduced us to Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) and gave us insights into his 2013 published paper “Language at War: A Critical Discourse Analysis of Speeches of Bush and Obama on Terrorism.”

The book is aimed at preparing students for this task re-gardless of the academic discipline and was published as a bilingual edition (Ger-man-English).
